Last Minute Gift Idea

A {Relaxing Neck Pillow} I found it at: {One Pretty Thing} Although it's taken me longer than it took her, it is an easy project. I had to figure out a step. I know some basic sewing, so that is why I think it took me longer to do this. But I am going to start on another one. I used material I had on hand and stuffing from making my {Mumblina} for my grandchild one year. Second pillow shouldn't take as long. Hope your enjoying the holidays!!

Burned Out Bulbs

~
If you have any burned out outdoor Christmas light bulbs how about turning them into an ornament. I used puffy paint to make a design and added glitter. Let dry before attaching a ribbon or thread to hang. I will either attach blue thread around the skrew part or ribbon so I can hang it. Reinforce ribbon or thread with glue. Let dry before you hang it. You can use glue to make a design and sprinkle glitter over it. Let dry before use. If you had enough of them your could make a garland and hang it across your windows or where ever you choose. Give the ornaments as gifts like I did this {Snowman} Orna-
ment two years ago using puffy paint, glitter and mod podge. You could also attach it to a gift even. {God Bless & Happy Holiday's!!!} PS. Wouldn't it be cute to paint a black belt and fur down the middle of a red bulb for a Santa suit? Even put glitter on the red part of the bulb or the fur and belt. Would love to see what you come up with!!

A Charlie Tree

Lots of limbs down on the ground. I've put some in a pitcher with baby's breath that dmil grew in her yard, made a wreath and added a few extra pine cones and baby's breath, and I made this Charlie Tree by putting greenery inside a vase and sticking in a limb I found on the ground on one of my daily walks. Added a red bell I bought sec- ondhand and some baby's breath. So simple to do. {God Bless You!!!}

Sweets & Immune System

Remember sugar weakens the immune system. So you might not want to let your kids eat a lot of that candy they are bringing home tonight. I was listening to a program and a parent was concerned about germs on the candy wrappers. I was thinking if the parents are concerned about germs on the candy wrappers they might put all the candy the kids brought home in a freezer bag and stick it in the freezer for a few days maybe that would kill the germs. That is my guess anyway. Do not let the kids stick their hands in the bowls of candy either. If your giving out candy use a scoop. {Pray 4}

The Worship Network

I turned on the television to a channel and heard Christmas music the other day for the first time this year. I usually start singing Christmas music in October. I was listening to a program awhile ago, that mentioned that Christ was born in September they think. What I like about the {The Worship Network} is that they not only play beautiful music and have beautiful scriptures come up on the screen they also have lovely photography from different places. It is soothing to listen to or watch. You can even buy it to have in your own collection and listen or watch it when you want to. There are other selections of Worship music too. God Bless!!!

A Deck of Cards & Table

I've been going through boxes in preparing for the move and I found this small set of Old Maid playing cards. So I thought I'd play with them and see what they might look like on a table. I have another table I might put them on after I move. I think I could just use mod podge to set them in place and put a varnish over them. I use to listen to the song called {The Deck of Cards}. It was on a record my Dad had. I loved to listen to it when I was young.

I think the small cards could be a fun border in a family/game or children's room if you collected enough different decks of them. You could also frame a deck or decks of them.

Produce & Sweets

Yesterday dd and I went to a produce store so I could buy local honey in a glass jar. While there we both found some really great deals on pro-duce. I spoke with the honey supplier the oth- er day and think I will go out to their farm around Christmas time and get some bees wax candles that they make. Today I brought in the {Stevia}. I added information at the link with a photo.

Reflex Camera

I bought this camera from an estate sale years ago. On a slip of paper inside the box it came in, was written with the following inforamtion. If you opened a savings account at a Federal Savings for $250.00 you received this camera and a year supply of free film when you went to a drug store and paid for a regular processing charge. I am going to try and put new film in it. It came with one package of film but it is so old, that I do not think it would be good anymore. The wrapping it came in had been open. I just looked up 620 film to see if they still made it. I found a source. I might try at a local camera shop first to see if they can get it.

Recipe from Dottie

1 pkg. cranberries, 1 pkg. marshmellows } grind. Add 1 cup sugar, let sit for an hour. Fold in 1 pint of whip cream, 1 can of crushed pine- apple (drained) and chopped walnuts. Everyone loves this dish. One of my younger brothers came up with the idea of freezing this cran- berry dish a little bit and eating it when it was in the soft serve stage. I think he had froze it and thawed it to the soft serve stage and ate it. That is how he found it it was great that way. Enjoy!

Season of Truth

What determines the true start of a season, is it actually the date and time set by man, or is it the first sign of new growth in spring, a new bud or green breaking open the ground beneath my feet, could it be the first turn of yellow, red or orange of a leaf, or is it when all the leaves start to fall to the ground at my feet, is it the first frost, or the first dusting of snow? When does a new season truely begin, is it the date man as set or when nature itself is telling us so? ~Flassie

Stenciled Pickle Jar

I made this many years ago. In the 80's. A dsil taught me how. I wanted them to have a more finished look on the underneath side of the lid. So on some of the lid's I covered cardborad that I cut to fit, with material and attached it with hot glue gun. I repurposed a cardboard insert from either a dress shirt or nylon package. When I find one of the lids that I know is finished on the inside, I'll post it.

An English Prayer

Give me a good digestion, Lord, and also something to digest; Give me a healthy body, Lord, to keep the good and pure in sight, Which, seeing sin, is not appalled, But finds a way to set it right. Give me a mind that is not bound, that does not whimper, whine, or sigh. Don't let me worry over much about the fussy thing called I. Give me a sense of humor, Lord; Give me the grace to see a joke, To get some happiness from life and pass it on to other folk. ~Found on the wall of England's Chester Cathedral

Japanese Researchers Report

I read that drinking two or more cups of green tea helps to keep allergies symptoms at bay. I also read that soaking brown rice in water 24 hours before it is cooked can increase its concentration of vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients. Rescreachers believe soaking simulates the first stages of sprouting in the rice, activating enzymes within it that supercharge its nutritional value. Note that white rice will not sprout.

Homemade Instant Oatmeal

Blend 1 cup dry oatmeal in a blender or food processor. If using a blender add a 1/4 or 1/2 cup at a time. To make single serving packets, place 2 Tblsps of oatmeal powder and 1/4 cup of oatmeal flakes in a ziplock bag. To serve place oatmeal in bowl add about 1/2 cup boiling water & stir. I place a small plate over it and let it set a little bit before eating. You can put oatmeal powder in a jar and add the flakes when you make it. Variation: add raisins, dried fruit and cinnamon and sugar to packet or when you make it. One of my dear sister-in-laws gave this recipe to me years ago. PS. Month of Dec 2009, I decided to just add a 1/3 cup of oatmeal to a small bowl and add raisins, cinnamon and hot water. I usually just put a small plate over it and let it set till the oatmeal absorbs the water. I am just using this lid so you can see the bowl. See the steam? Not sure if there is a benefit to cooking it for 5 minutes but if you are in a hurry and don't want to dirty a pan. I use a tea kettle to boil water. Oatmeal here that I am using is thick cut.

"I met God in the morning"

I met God in the Morning, When my day was . . . at it's best, And His presence came like sunrise, Like a glory in my breast. All day long His presence lingered, All day long He stayed with me, And We sailed in perfect calmness, Over a very troubled sea. Other ships were torn and battered, Other ships were sore distressed, But the winds that seemed to drive them, Brought Us to a perfect rest. Then I think of other mornings, When a keen remorse of mind, When I too . . . had loosed the moorings, With His prescence . . . left behind. So . . . I think I know the secret, Learned from many a troubled way. . . YOU must seek God in the morning . . . IF YOU WANT HIM . . . through the day! ~ Ralph Cushman ~ and {Jesus 2020}

{~Uses for Shoulder Pads~}

I usually take the shoulder pads out of my clothing. Here are some ideas of use for them.
Make cat toys, sew on curve, leave a enough opening to add catnip at the tail end and add a tail and sew up. Add ears, eyes, nose and whiskers. Add to inside or outside of pants and use as knee pads, Add lace for hair accessory, make a bra, link to bra tutorial & other projects at:{One Pretty Thing}, make a child purse, doll head, pin cushion, add zipper and make a coin purse, make fin-
ger puppets, eye mask, tree ornaments, doll bonnet, brooch, add as ears to a costume, sew around, leave opening big enough to fill with beans or rice and make a toss toy, or stuff with fiber fill and make a ball or make a {Kippah} if you had enough of them collected & fold and sew to children's clothing to make pockets. Supplies needed: scissors, thread. Embelishments & other supplies needed, depending on project, are: ribbon, lace, buttons, hooks, snaps, velcro, zipper, beads, embroidery floss, hair clasp, fabric beans or rice. How about making finger puppets and adding them to a shoe box blessing for a child and give to: {Samaritans Purse}

Doll Pattern

This pattern is a result that came from two drawings my sweet granddaughter drew on a magna doodle pad. I drew it on paper and folded it to make each side more even. I used glue stick to add the hands to the arms. Click photos if you'd like to get a closer look.

Glued Pattern

I glued the legs to the body and decided that the legs were to close together for me to sew.

Leg Pattern Pieces

Here I made separate pattern pieces for the legs. I pinned all pieces to the material and cut it out about a 1/2 inch from the edge of pattern.

Sewn Body

I sewn the body twice around and left the botton all the way open for easy stuffing and adding the legs later. I did some clipping and trimming around the body too.

Cutting arms

I found out after turning the body right side out that the arms were puckering so I turned it inside out again and cut the arms off. I reinforced the bottom of the arms by machine stitching them where the seams were on each side after I had to cut them away from the body.

Adding Arms

I turned the arms rightside out and stuffed them with Polyester Fiberfill and attached them to the body, using the sewing machine.

Doll Body

This is the finished body. I need to do some more shifting with the fiberfill to get the body smoothed out. I will be adding facial features with embroidery thread & hair or a hat maybe both on another day. One more photo below of the lace I will use when making the dress.

Lace for Doll Dress

This is the lace I will use to make dress. I am going to use blue material to make a puffy sleeve dress. The lace will be added in layers over the blue dress. I will add photos to the finished doll at a later date.

These little animals, people and creatures. that I cut out, came from a Happy Meal pa- per bag and glued them to cardstock. Make stands by cutting a little notch between the legs of the paper dolls a little bit and cut between the middle of a stand you can cut out in the shape of a half circle and cut the bottom of the stand down to fit so the paper dolls could stand up on their own.
