Ban Box

This is a thrifted ban box that I decided to paint. Not finished with it yet. The bottom part is craft paint mixed with mod podge. The lid is just craft paint. I will mix some paint with mod podge to help the paint adhere better to the top of the box. A little tole painting, stenciling, add a silhouette or decoupage something on it. You could even use stamps, add glitter. How about a glitter silhouette. I use to make fabric ban boxes many years ago. You could add material, lace, ribbon, silk flowers, buttons, etc. There are so many of possibilties.

The Onions are Growing

{The Onions are Growing, The Onions are Growing} “My own remedy is always to eat, just before I step into bed, a hot roasted onion, if I have a cold.” ~George Washington (attributed)

The Scent of a Cob

I kept trying to figure out the smell of Dead Nettle after pull- ing the leaves and bloosoms off. I finally figured out that it smells like a corn cob. Kind of looks and feels like it a little bit too, minus the cream color and size. How could such sweet and wholesome hours Be reckoned but with herbs and flowers? ~ Andrew Marvel. Medicine Soup

A friend gave me this recipe called Medicine Soup: Chopped onion, drained can of corn, green beans with juice in can, 3 peeled chopped carrots, 3 or 4 chopped potatoes, 1/2 c. chopped cabbage, 1 or more cloves of garlic, 1 large can or 2 medium cans of blended tomatoes, add water as needed, add herbs as desired, parsley, sweet basil, Italian herbs, salt, eat many bowls of hot steaming soup to "cure" especially, colds and flu! Can add other veggies like, broccoli, peas, beets, celery, etc. Red beans will make it a minestrone type more hearty soup. Barley or veggie meat makes it heav- ier meal. Add pasta to vary it. Cook it like you would any type of Minestrone soup recipe.

Sticking to the Pan

If food starts to stick to the pan it is in while cooking soup, rice, etc: Turn off the burner and pull the pan off its heat source and let the steam from the moisture in the food loosen it. I had added Quinoa to this leftover bean soup, so it would add a few extra serv- ings to it. It started to stick at the bottom and the above tech- nique fixed it. I was just glad it wasn't at the burning point stage.
